LETTER: Vote yes

My kids are just finishing their run through the Port Angeles middle and high schools.

We appreciate the hardworking teachers and administrators.

We were aware that the halls of Stevens Middle School were dark and gloomy, that the lockers’ locks stuck and made students late to class, that the ventilation system in the gym/cafeteria didn’t work, that the school was worn out and decrepit.

At the high school there are buckets in classrooms to catch the leaks, the building is old and decaying, and frankly, it is a depressing atmosphere in which to work and go to school.

In spite of this, much good work is going on.

But it is beyond time to modernize for safety and educational reasons.

The buildings are on their last legs.

Families do not want to move here, as they see a town that does not invest in its educational infrastructure.

We have a beautiful new library, senior center, a pool and a concert hall on its way.

It is time now to invest in our schools, as our parents did before us.

Taxes are difficult but this can not be the place where we continue to cut corners.

If you look at the school district facts about the levy, found at www.portangelesschools.org you can find all the information you need about this vital vote for our future.

Please join me in voting yes on the 2020 capitol levy and our future.
