LETTER: Vote thoughtfully

As a Christian and as an American, I am deeply troubled by the actions and language of Donald Trump.

His behavior is the antithesis of what I have been taught all of my life about being truthful, trustworthy, faithful, humble, responsible and respectful.

While no politician, or person, is perfect or infallible, the lack of integrity of this president is unlike any other president in my lifetime, Republican or Democrat.

During his tenure, I have watched our country become more divided than it has ever been, and it is destroying the fabric of our nation.

While I do not believe that Joe Biden will single-handedly be able to take us out of this unprecedented place, I do believe he will actually listen and will strive to unite us rather than divide us, which gives me hope.

These times bring to mind Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was part of a courageous minority of Christians in Germany who spoke out against another deeply concerning leader, Adolf Hitler.

In Bonhoeffer’s words, “The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children.”

Before casting your vote for president this fall, I would implore you to search your conscience and vote for what is best for all Americans and our future as a nation.

Our children are depending on it.
