Trump’s refusal to accept any kind of responsibility for the failure of his administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic place him far below how real leaders show courage and fortitude in times of crisis.
After declaring that “I don’t take responsibility at all” for the lack of testing in the U.S., Trump has tried to blame everyone but himself:
He wasted critical time in February and March, not declaring a national emergency until March 13, yet he held five rallies and golfed four times during that period.
Other world leaders were using that time to ramp up testing and put in place strict measures.
He blames the World Health Organization and China.
If they were completely at fault, why are so many other countries doing far better in controlling the spread than the U.S?
Why does the U.S. have the greatest number of infections and deaths in the world?
He said he inherited a broken testing system from Obama, yet it was the Centers for Disease Control under his watch that produced a failed test, setting us back weeks.
If he thought he inherited a broken system, he had three years to fix it, and did nothing.
He has dangerously talked about injecting disinfectant as a treatment, then tried to say this was sarcasm aimed at reporters when it was clear he was directing his reckless musings at his own experts.
If Trump refuses to take any responsibility, then he should do one responsible thing: self-isolate.
That will be a cure for us all.
