Heard on Burnt Hill:
Ms. Elk turns to her husband, “Why do you keep sending out those emails about Christmas to our relatives?”
Big Mo Ten-Point looks up, “Well, it makes me mad.
“I’ve been hearing those young bucks up here putting down Christmas.
“They say it’s a passé tradition, and we shouldn’t be celebrating.
“They say it might be teaching our kids to believe in something that they can’t see — like Santa Claus.
“My God, maybe it would teach them to have faith in something they can’t touch.
“It might come in handy when they get to be about 90.”
“Now Mo, you know you can’t tell kids anything. They know it all.”
“Well, they don’t know one thing, that traditions are something we don’t want to lose.
They make us a country.
