I read the letter “Dumping Nike” in the PDN on Sept. 25 with a combination of amusement and frustration.
In it, the writer rants about Nike signing Colin Kaepernick, the “kneeling, national anthem- and U.S. flag-disrespecting, mediocre ex-49ers quarterback.”
If this writer (and tens of millions of others like him) had done something called research, he would have known that the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in 1943, as in 75 years ago, that it was your First Amendment right to stand or to not stand for the national anthem or salute the flag.
Kaepernick, and all the others like him, are not disrespecting the U.S. flag.
If this person chooses not to purchase any more Nike products and throw away all his other purchases from that company, that is his right.
By the way, although he stated in his letter that Nike has lost billions of dollars in stock prices, that is patently untrue.
Although they took a hit in the first few hours after signing Kaepernick, their stock has now rebounded.
Maybe they’ve lost billions of dollars on Fox News, but not in the real world.
