The condition of school facilities in the Port Angeles district is declining with the consequence that if nothing is done now, the cost impact on the schools, a critical element of our community infrastructure, will be catastrophic.
I urge all interested parties (property owners) to engage with the district superintendent and staff, School Board members, teachers, para-educators, and maintenance staff to learn the why of this levy’s need to be passed.
District superintendent Martin Brewer and maintenance superintendent Nolan Duce have made presentations to service clubs and organizations throughout the district.
These presentations are compelling and make a clear case for the need for funding this construction starting now.
The plan covers 30 years and has been thoroughly costed, deliberately prioritized by facility, represents the efforts of a strong and dedicated school board, and is well organized.
Please look at the specifics at: www.portangelesschools.org/community/2020_capital_levy.
This plan is performance based.
Return to a three-year middle school program, which is beneficial to middle schoolers and will relieve overcrowding in elementary schools.
Voters must approve a bond/levy every few years over the life of this plan.
Should the commitments made by the district not be met, the voters will have the opportunity to reject the plan in the future.
I believe the commitments will be met.
Our schools, teachers and students win awards.
They deserve safe, modern and secure facilities to do the work that will build the future of the community.
Please support our schools.
