LETTER: Support MAT

I strongly support the proposed MAT clinic/healing campus.

The Jamestown S’klallam tribe purchased property that is zoned for this purpose and the consortium behind the project has engaged in an extensive public comment process, which was not required but undertaken in good faith to engage with members of the public.

The Healing Campus is needed in this community.

Opioid use disorder is a serious public health concern, and the tribe, the state and our local health care providers are stepping up to address this concern by providing a state-of-the-art facility.

People are more likely to be successful in treatment if they are able to receive treatment close to home.

With regard to the opposition to the clinic, the ignorance and vitriol spread by this group is alarming.

They appear to be fact-resistant, and their targeting of the tribe is disgraceful.

Their actions have led to unnecessary division and conflict.

In contrast, the clinic’s supporters have been dignified, professional and fact-based.

Most citizens of this town want it to be healthy and supportive of everyone, including those who might temporarily be down and in need of a hand up.
