LETTER: ‘Success all around’ for League of Women Voters forums

The Clallam County League of Women Voters recently completed the last of our four forums for candidates running in the November election.

About 150 people attended forums in Port Angeles, Sequim and Forks.

We also completed voter registration drives in Sequim, in Port Angeles and at Peninsula College.

All of these activities further our league’s goals, which are to educate voters, promote civil discourse and encourage everyone to vote.

I would like to thank each of the candidates who participated in our recent forums.

They all demonstrated what civil discourse looks like.

We are fortunate in Clallam County to have had candidates who not only followed “forum rules” but were consistently respectful and courteous to their opponents and to the audience.

The questions from the audience were equally respectful, and the media accurately reflected the events.

Success all around.

You can find video recordings of each of the four forums on the Clallam County League of Women Voters’ website at lwvcla.org. Ballots were mailed Oct. 18.

Please don’t let your ballot be forgotten in a pile of mail on your kitchen counter.

Every vote counts, and in a democracy … you must be present to win.

Linda Benson,

Sequim

Benson is president of the Clallam County League of Women Voters.
