We, the people, must call on Congress to take whatever steps are necessary in the House and Senate to pass a war powers resolution that goes beyond limiting President Trump’s actions regarding Iran.
They must revoke all war powers contained in the AUMF (Authorization for Use of Military Force) without reservation.
Congress has neglected its duties far too long and as a result the United States has been in a continuous state of war, all undeclared, since 2003. This should not now nor should it ever have been a political issue.
Senators and representatives from both parties took an oath wherein they clearly stated individually: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”
The Constitution clearly designates Congress as the only branch of the U.S. government that can declare war.
About 55 percent of us voted in 2016 and 47 percent in 2018 electing the present occupants of both houses of Congress and President Trump.
It’s time we remember that we are the people the Constitution was written to protect, and it is our solemn duty to be informed, then make four phone calls; two senators, a representative and President Trump.
Stand up. Speak out.
