LETTER: Research and truth

From Sequim

Whose truth do you have; a pundit’s, a politician’s, a newspaper’s from the left side of center, a website from the opposite of that, an entertainment’s celebrity?

Do you know if they have their own bias?

Where is your truth, have you explored all the options?

It is said that we only seek information (AKA: facts) that validates our own truth, there is always plenty for everyone.

Lots of experts to go around, too.

You may not like it, you may disagree entirely to someone else’s truth but have you gone to the other corner and listened to their truth.

Or, are you so invested in yours that you call them names and prosecute their truth.

In high school, the debate team had to prepare to defend both the pro and con arguments of the resolution.

Then, at the beginning of the debate, they were told which side to defend.

Can you imagine you preparing to defend your opposite point of truth?

Do you even know where to go to start?

Do you look for the context of quotes, the views of opposing experts, the ideas of those with differing solutions?

Are you just interested in changing someone’s mind or are you genuinely looking for the best possible truth for all.

The division we’re facing will not be solved by only one collective mind with one truth.

As usual, most of you will decide that, of course this letter was not for me.

I know it is meant for my opposition.
