LETTER: Public service

I have had the privilege of serving on the Clallam County Charter Review Commission this past year.

Please note that I am speaking only for myself in this letter, and I do not represent the entire commission.

The commission has been led under the exemplary leadership of Susan Fisch, who was unanimously voted as chair by all 15 members.

This work has been tedious and exhilarating, but also difficult.

Fisch has led the commission with an even hand, despite one of the commissioners trying over and over again to annihilate her character in an online blog, which is the equivalent of a high school slam book.

This blog has called out other members of the commission as well, misrepresenting facts and skewing information to reflect the writer’s own beliefs.

Even a barking dog has freedom of speech, but it is up to the rest of us to set the record straight.

People did not run for this elected, voluntary position to be defamed. They did it to serve their community and I, for one, am proud of the fortitude and trust that Fisch has shown in the process and in the commission to be able to function in light of social sabotage.

She keeps showing up.

We need more leaders like her.
