LETTER: Protect election

There has never been an election more important than Nov. 3, 2020.

Our public health and our democracy are at stake.

I am calling on all Washington citizens to contact our elected officials.

Tell them to support and pass The Heroes Act (The Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions), which has passed the House and awaits action in the Senate.

Our state has an all vote-by-mail ballot.

Other states aren’t as fortunate.

Even here, our sacred right to vote is uncertain, because the U.S. Post Office will not have funds to be able to function after this September.

Funding to help the post office is included in this act.

We need to make sure all Americans have the chance to vote safely.

Congress must provide states at least $3.6 billion in additional election funding that is also included in the Heroes Act.

And Congress should require that states take the necessary steps to ensure safe voting, also included.

It is vital to our democracy that all voters have safe and equal access to the ballot box.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, our nation suffered from the misrule at the top, and our country has crumbled due to needed government services that are being dismantled at warp speed.

Requiring states to provide vote-by-mail, online registration, early voting, and protections for poll workers will ensure everyone can vote safely across the country.

Elected officials, safeguard our lives and our constitutional right to vote, in Washington and in every state.

Do the right thing and protect our November election now.
