Nix levy, FLASH program
I cannot support the Port Angeles school board’s proposed capital levy.
I attended the school board meeting when the board authorized the Family Life and Sexual Health program (FLASH).
Despite in-depth research and a detailed presentation by school board member Susan Shotthafer, and opposing testimony by a mental health professional and two other citizens, the board denied a request for more time to investigate other programs more protective of students’ sexuality.
The FLASH program presents scenarios of students engaging in homosexual and heterosexual relationships. I think this approach puts students at risk for sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy, gender confusion, low self-esteem and depression.
On another issue related to the FLASH program, on Jan. 11, I attended a hearing in Olympia held by the Senate Health and Long-Term Care Committee on Senate Bill 5722.
This bill, if enacted, would make it illegal for a minor to receive counseling from a licensed mental health professional regarding changing gender orientation or gender identity.
I think the FLASH program may create gender confusion.
Senate Bill 5722 would remove the right of parents and minors to seek counseling regarding a change of gender identity or gender orientation.
Martin Luther King Jr. stated that “injustice everywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
Do not allow the state to take away the rights of parents and our youth. Contact our state legislators to vote no on S-5722.
Please vote no on the capital school levy.
