LETTER: Not happy with ‘change’ of National Rifle Association

The April 4 letter “NRA has changed” seemed to be reading my mind.

I, too, am a I long-time National Rifle Association member.

I became a life member in 1960.

At that time, the NRA’s purpose was to promote firearm safety and also organized marksmanship competitions.

Back then, the NRA offered a safety and firearms training to anyone who purchased a weapon.

I, too, have seen the organization taken over by one-issue extremists.

This has allowed them to win political battles in the short term.

However, extremists always lose in the long term.

Sane compromise and regard for the public’s safety is really what is needed.

At this time, I am sad to say I am ashamed to be an NRA member.
