We all know that retaining an attorney can be costly and navigating the legal system can be a difficult process without one.
For low-income families it can almost be impossible.
There is one group dedicated to serving low-income families in our community, Clallam-Jefferson Pro Bono Lawyers.
This is a nonprofit organization of local attorneys who give their time to help low-income families.
One of the many services they provide is a courthouse facilitator.
This position is currently funded jointly by both the Clallam-Jefferson Pro Bono Lawyers and Clallam County.
The facilitator helps you with the forms you need and how to navigate certain courtroom procedures.
Several years ago they helped my son navigate the paperwork and courtroom procedures necessary to change custody of his son to remove him from a difficult living environment.
Currently Clallam County currently in their budgeting process and the funding for this critical position may be on the chopping block.
I would like to urge anyone who has been helped by this much needed service to write the county commissioners asking them to continue funding this position which is vital to our community.
