I am appalled by the latest mandate by our governor requiring businesses to police their own customers.
Since police and sheriffs’ departments all over the state have declined to enforce his masking requirements, the governor has now put the onus on our businesses to enforce these dictates.
Businesses already have huge restrictions to deal with, sanitizing everything constantly, marking floors for social distancing, masking their employees so you can hardly understand them, and diminishing customer capacity so they can barely make a living.
Topping it off, they will face charges of gross misdemeanor, fines and losing their business licenses if they don’t comply with the governor’s orders.
Our leaders, state and local, have let criminals out of jail, let a mob take over part of Seattle, constrained law enforcement from going in and dealing with the robberies, rapes and killings that ensued, and now plan to punish businesses for doing their best to keep us supplied with food, goods and necessary services if they don’t bar their businesses to people not wearing masks.
What is wrong with this picture?
I was taught that in our system of government, those in charge are the servants of the people, not their rulers.
What happened to change this?
Are we living in some kind of giant mommy state where the government makes our individual health decisions?
I prefer a state government that doesn’t resort to making a third party responsible for making sure I follow orders from on high.
