For over 50 years, I have voted by mail and in person in Washington, California and overseas, and never once worried about my ballot being received and counted.
Until now.
It’s not because of shortcomings or inefficiency in the Post Office as Mr.Trump claims.
It’s because of efforts, both underhanded and overt, to confuse and subvert results of the upcoming election to ensure Trump’s success.
We all know that’s what is happening, those who want Trump to prevail, and those who recognize the imminent peril it represents to the very existence of our nation.
In allowing awareness of this danger to continue without push-back, are we choosing to be like those frogs in pots of cold water, oblivious to the increasing heat?
I know that my ballot here in Sequim will safely reach county headquarters and be counted this time, but what about folks in other states who cannot be as confident?
And what about the future, if this man and his comrades are successful in dismantling yet another of the underpinnings of our democracy?
We all know that, whatever the outcome of this election, Trump and his base are doing everything they can to confuse the situation and cast doubt upon the result if he doesn’t prevail or Biden wins by anything less than a landslide.
It’s my hope and prayer that we can survive this season of doubt and divisiveness and find ways, once again, to be Americans who can trust, respect and care about one another.
