The Dec. 1 Peninsula Voices contained a letter entitled “Stupid Democrats” where the writer listed evidence that he proudly proclaimed he had gotten from the internet and other sources.
I wonder if the writer had stopped to consider that the Democrats are finally doing what we have been demanding from Congress for a couple of decades: To put their duty to the well-being of our nation ahead of personal politics.
Impeachment is not a partisan issue — it is an American issue.
The president of our nation has actively recruited a foreign power to affect the outcome of an election.
At the time when our nation was formed, when early patriots worried deeply about the divided loyalties of our citizens, this is precisely the behavior the framers of our Constitution considered a high crime when they wrote the rules of impeachment.
If we allow this behavior to stand unchallenged it will become normal, whatever the outcome of the next election.
A president of either party can use the power of the presidency to pursue self interest without fear of consequence.
We’re not idly watching some made-for-television entertainment.
Nor is it fake news.
This is the very future of our democratic institutions and the people sounding the alarms are patriots who risk everything to come forward.
We cannot stand by while this rogue president destroys our Constitution, our democracy and our rule of law.
If one finds this stupid, they have not been paying attention.
