The writer of this opinion couldn’t have hit the nail more directly on the head.
He is absolutely correct in laying some of the blame for our current political condition on Evangelicals and self-professed Christians who overwhelmingly voted for Trump in 2016.
How could anyone who believes in God and what God stands for ever have voted for Trump and still profess support for him?
In 1920, U.S. journalist Henry Mencken seems to adequately captured the situation in an article in the Baltimore Evening Sun, 26 July 1920: “As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
