On Nov. 9, I saw two schoolchildren almost hit trying to cross the street in Bremerton.
It was on a four-lane arterial.
A car in the right lane stopped for them.
The other cars just zoomed by in the left lane, chasing the children back up onto the sidewalk a couple times.
On Nov. 10, I saw a deer get hit in Port Angeles near Morse Creek.
Same thing: Some cars were slowing and others couldn’t be troubled to do the right thing.
The deer ended up with a badly broken leg and had to be put down.
The person that hit it kept going.
If it were a child, would you have kept going?
If you see someone slowing for no apparent reason, please slow down and be prepared to stop.
This time a deer died. Next time it could be a child.
