LETTER: Deliberate dismantlement of our government

I appreciate OMC’s CEO Eric Lewis educating the public about the government’s plan to substantially cut Medicare reimbursements.

This will affect us all, in quality of care, access to care and local employment.

I wasn’t aware until I read the PDN (“OMC CEO urges ‘real people’ to express how change would affect them,” Sept. 19).

In my understanding this is not simply our “federal government” but is in fact the exclusive effort of one political party. This distinction is important.

In early 2017 once President Donald Trump took office, one political party in Congress set to work to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Sen. John McCain left the hospital to cast his vote against the Senate’s last effort to destroy the Affordable Care Act. His defiant and dignified swan song.

A medical emergency earlier this year led to my son receiving care at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.

I received a tour of the facility by their director of buildings and grounds.

It’s a beautiful, modern and up-to-date facility and a public hospital, like our own.

We are now witnessing the deliberate dismantlement of our government of the people.

It’s being replaced by a government of the few, of the corporations, with all benefits going to those at the top.
