LETTER: Canoe’s return sparks friendly memory

The canoe featured in a recent edition looks as if it could be one crafted by my old friend Bill Penn, of La Push, who had a very interesting sense of humor to say the least. (“Canoe returned to its homeland on West End,” PDN, July 17, 2017)

Many years ago, Bill offered me a ride in his canoe.

I assumed he meant on the river.

When he told me straight-faced that he wanted to take me out to “the Rocks,” several miles offshore, I chickened.

Bill grinned a wicked little, “gotcha.”

I spent the rest of that day with one leg longer than the other.
