LETTER: Believes he has seen the results of clinics first-hand

I live in Sequim part-time and have experienced as a counselor the results of medication-assisted treatment clinics in and around San Clemente, Calif.

To say and try to assure the people of Sequim that the proposed clinic will be different than those in California is ludicrous.

Why will it be different?

A sheriff’s presence certainly didn’t prevent the shooting at a meth clinic in Maryland in July.

The homelessness problem in San Clemente, Calif., has increased exponentially to such a degree that we had to open up a large field in back of a school.

Sequim’s Whimsy Park won’t be large enough.

Maybe the new city hall with the large open front can accommodate some.

While serving on jury duty in Santa Ana, Calif., we were told not to go outside because it was too dangerous due to the homeless.

Research proves that addiction is one of the contributing factors to homelessness.

Dr. Walter Ling, professor of psychiatry and founding director of the Integrated Substance Abuse Programs at UCLA said, “The difference between getting off drugs and staying off drugs is the difference between a wedding and a happy marriage. The wedding is a big deal, but it has nothing to do with a happy marriage.”
