LETTER: Barkhuis would correct problems, restore trust

Elect Barkhuis

Selinda Barkhuis was elected treasurer eight years ago following an embezzlement scandal that cost Clallam County hundreds of thousands of dollars.

As treasurer, Selinda corrected the problems and restored trust in that office.

Clallam County now faces a crisis in the prosecuting attorney’s office.

The recent denial of Mark Nichols’ motion for summary judgment in the sexual harassment and retaliation case against him leaves the county at high risk for another enormous judgment related to his conduct in office.

This case joins a long list of such cases, including a prior case dealing with sex and age discrimination and a case dealing with land use planning and the public records act.

These cases have cost the taxpayers of this state and this county millions of dollars.

They have also caused much wasted time and effort and much misery to the affected citizens.

Selinda Barkhuis is a very talented attorney.

She has proven herself with her work not only in the treasurer’s office, but also in the Department of Community Development, a department that is currently facing serious legal issues which I believe are also the result of poor advice from the prosecuting attorney’s office.

To correct the problems and restore trust in that office, Selinda Barkhuis must now be elected Clallam County prosecuting attorney.
