LETTER: Barkhuis better choice for Clallam prosecuting attorney

Supports Barkhuis

The headline on the front page of the Peninsula Daily News on Oct. 1, “Clallam prosecutor seeks to end sexual harassment lawsuit” has compelled me to write.

We have two candidates running for the position of Clallam County prosecuting attorney.

These are some comparisons that should help each voter to decide which candidate is more qualified and who will best represent the interests of Clallam County — a candidate who has demonstrated over time that we can trust and respect them.

Barkhuis has been elected twice as county treasurer, the incumbent has less than four years in elected office.

Barkhuis has been elected twice as president of the Clallam Country Bar Association, the incumbent has held no leadership positions in the same organization.

Barkhuis has been recognized twice by local lawyers for promoting access to justice for all, the incumbent has received no recognition from his peers.

While Barkhuis has staunchly defended our tax dollars and has been harassed for that, the incumbent has wasted our tax dollars on attorney fees while he has been sued for sexual harassment, age and gender discrimination, and failure to provide public records.

I hope this letter has clearly demonstrated that Selinda Barkhuis is the better candidate for the position of Clallam County prosecutor.
