As a parent and grandparent, I want all of our children to be provided with the education and skills needed to protect themselves from unwanted sexual advances when confronted with them.
This is one of the reasons I will vote to approve R-90 on Nov. 3.
When children are given age-appropriate, medically-based education about their own sexual health they will learn how to speak up for themselves when faced with inappropriate or unwanted sexual behavior.
The state Legislature passed a law requiring all Washington schools to provide sexual health education.
But we must vote Approve R-90 to have it implemented.
Parents can have their children excused from this curriculum.
Lest people worry about children learning about sex at too early an age, consider our kids’ exposure to a media that pushes the message that being sexually attractive and available is the norm, the way to be accepted.
The curriculum in the schools will help children learn to say “no” with conviction, learn how to report inappropriate behavior, and learn that it’s totally OK to avoid sexual activity, all critical lessons.
Join with me to Approve R-90, a vote for our children, their health and well being.
