My sex education experience was awful and I could say a lot about it, but I will focus on this, nobody taught us about consent.
Young men tried to persuade or convince me to have sex after I told them I didn’t want to.
In college, I was raped by another student who didn’t understand that no means no.
I also had a teacher at Sequim Middle School who groomed female students inappropriately, myself included. The school district investigated and he resigned.
All teenagers need to learn about consent.
Young people also need the tools to understand what victimization from adults looks like and how to get help.
