LETTER: Against masks

Who are you going to believe: Gov. Inslee and our county health officers, or your own lyin’ eyes?

Clallam County had 20 new COVID-19 positives in the last three days.

Twenty.

I thought the statewide mask edict unequivocally slowed the spread of the virus.

Apparently not.

Hawaii mandated masks in April, but were recently struggling with the highest transmission rate in the

entire U.S.

The Philippines also mandated masks in April, but on Aug. 2 recorded over 5,000 additional infections, the country’s largest single-day increase.

I can just hear the lockdown fanatics retorting, “The spread must be happening when people had their masks off.”

Bull-feathers.

For the sake of argument, assume masks work in a laboratory setting.

In the real world, the CDC says you’re supposed to wash your hands before putting it on (like you never see anyone do); you’re never supposed to touch the mask or put it around your neck (like you always see people do); and masks are supposed to be washed after each use (how often do you wash yours?).

Aside from the mask charade, the goal of stopping COVID-19 cases is not the appropriate goal.

The goals should be to protect people who are going to have a serious problems or die; and prevent hospital overcrowding.

That’s it.

Wash your hands, avoid touching your face, physically distance and stay home when sick – that’s good advice.

The cult of the mask, however, needs to end.
