LETTER: A peaceful political discussion with a neighbor

From Sequim

A neighbor and I recently had a brief and friendly political discussion.

My neighbor said: “I can’t believe you would vote for Trump.”

I replied, “I’m not voting for Trump. I’m voting for the First Amendment and freedom of speech.

“I’m voting for the Second Amendment and my right to defend my family.

“I’m voting for law and order and respect for our police.

“I’m voting for jobs in America, not China.

“I’m voting for the appointment of federal judges who respect the Constitution and don’t legislate from the bench.

“I’m voting for secure borders and legal immigration.

“I’m voting for freedom of religion.

“I’m voting for our military and the veterans who fought for our freedoms.

“I’m voting for continued progress on peace in the Middle East.

“I’m not voting for just one person, I’m voting for the future of my country.”

We parted peacefully and I think we’re still friends.
