The survival of the Port Townsend Golf Club is presently uncertain.
The lease contract will expire this year, and the city is seeking proposals to make the course more self-sufficient, as well as proposals for alternate uses for the property.
Have you ever tried the game of golf?
Many of us of retirement age have found this game to provide physical, mental and emotional stimulation, as well as great pleasure.
It is one outdoor activity that you can play at any age, by yourself or with others.
Second-hand golf clubs are easy to find, private lessons are given at the course, and the more you play, the more satisfaction it brings.
By the nature of the game, it provides outdoor social distancing so important during this COVID-19 pandemic.
Each year there are about 20 different tournaments, many of which are fundraisers for worthy causes.
Kiwanis and Rotary clubs sponsor tournaments each year that benefit our community.
The Port Townsend High School golf team has practiced and competed on the course for years. And even cross country meets are held on the course.
The variety of activities in Port Townsend is one reason many of us moved here.
Boating, walking the beach and trails, bicycling, swimming, tennis, pickleball, music events and golfing.
The course is beautiful and a real asset to our town.
Please spread the word to save our public course or write to the city council.
