After attending numerous zoom conferences, debates and forums, listening to supporters and reading many position statements for all candidates in the primary, we’ve comfortably settled our support behind Lorna Smith for Jefferson Country district 2 commissioner.
Both candidates have long histories of community involvement.
Lorna, however, has shown a heightened knowledge of important environmental, fiscal and social matters, and greater experience bringing organizations within and around government into collaboration with the communities she has served throughout her career.
She has a clear advantage in these areas.
Lorna is a scientist. In this time of climate change, a pandemic, and environmental issues stressed by population growth it is more important than ever that we have scientists at every level of leadership.
With the question being not whether we grow, but how it will be managed, Lorna will provide a scientific approach to her leadership on the council, ensuring that our interests with regard to business development, housing and the environment will not take a back seat to the whims of developers who look for expedience and profit, nor will they violate the rural and mariner lifestyles we all value.
Throughout this campaign, Lorna is the one candidate who has not once hesitated when answering a question, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of all issues raised.
She articulates thorough, insightful and proactive notions of how to address the various and complex political, social and environmental challenges confronting our community as we grow.
Both candidates would serve our community well, but Lorna will serve it best.
