Zumbathon to raise funds for Clallam Mosaic

SEQUIM — Zumba fitness instructor Li Gordon, along with local instructors Jane Dominquez Jenny Mora and Teresa Schmid, will host a Zumbathon from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sequim YMCA.

Doors open at the Y at 610 N. Fifth Ave., 4:45 p.m.

All funds from the suggested donation of $10 will be donated to Clallam Mosaic, a nonprofit celebrating 20 years of empowering individuals with special needs.

Participants don’t need to be members of the YMCA to join in; however, non-YMCA members need to show a photo ID and check in at the front desk before entering the gym.

According to Gordon, a nurse who has taught Zumba for more than 10 years, this is a fitness program anyone can do no matter one’s personal athletic ability.

“The youngest I have taught is a 5-year-old, and I have taught a woman in her 90s.

“Zumba comes in many formats and levels,” Gordon said.

“Standing, sitting, limited movement, all abilities will enjoy doing Zumba. It is very inclusive.”

Said Gordon, “Each instructor has their own style so people get a variety. Zumba fitness uses international music so there will be a variety of songs. And the Y has been very supportive of our events.”

Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottles, wear comfortable clothing in layers for ease of movement, and wear comfortable shoes without much traction to be used on an indoor gym floor.

Besides the dancing, there will be raffle prizes, great music and photo opportunities.

For more information, email Gordon at gordonsc@olypen.com or info@clallammosaic.org. Or, call Clallam Mosaic at 360-681-8642.

Clallam Mosaic looks to deliver services and programs for life-long education, leisure and recreation opportunities to individuals with developmental disabilities, and by providing information and support to families and caregivers.
