Youth pianist, UW wind ensemble to perform at benefit concert

PORT ANGELES — Tickets still remain for the Olympic Medical Center Foundation Benefit Concert Presented by North Olympic Healthcare Network at Field Arts & Events Hall.

The concert will be at 5:30 p.m. April 13 at 201 W. Front St.

National award-winning youth pianist Leo Yang will perform, along with the University of Washington Wind Ensemble and local musicians.

Terry Correia, who will also perform at the event, is donating the services of herself and Yang because of a desire to support Olympic Medical Center and the OMC Foundation.

“I know that this is a difficult time financially for most hospitals in the country, so I wanted to do something for OMC,” Correia said. “My mom has been treated there, and has received excellent care.”

The UW Wind Ensemble will perform David Maslanka’s Symphony No. 4 and will join with Yang for Rhapsody in Blue at the conclusion of the show. Yang will perform works by Franz Liszt, Friedrich Gulda and Louis Gottschalk, while local musicians will combine with the young pianist to play Saint-Saens’ Septet in E-flat Major, Op. 65.

Tickets are available at fieldhallevents.org and additional information can be obtained by calling the OMC Foundation office at 360-417-7144.

A special VIP ticket will include VIP seating and a special dinner after the event — “Dinner With the Chefs,” which will feature Toga Hertzog, of Toga’s Soup House Deli & Gourmet and Toga’s Fine dining, and Michael McQuay, the owner chef of Kokopelli’s and Hook & Line Pub in Port Angeles.

Yang is one of the best youth pianists in the country. A 16-year-old high school student in Chapel Hill, N.C., he was the first-place winer in the Elite International Duet Competition, which then featured him at a recital at Carnegie Hall in New York in February 2022.

Before graduating from PAHS, Correia played all over town. She was an elementary and middle school and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church accompanist. She was also the first full-time organist for First United Methodist Church and a percussionist for the Port Angeles Symphony.
