SEQUIM — Writers on the Spit will host the Fourth Friday Readings tonight.
The free readings will be in the Media Room of The Lodge at 660 Evergreen Farm Way off Fifth Avenue. The readings will begin at 6:30. Doors will open at 6 p.m. to allow purchases of beverages and snacks at the Espresso Bistro.
The 2017 season begins with Harley Davidson and Claire Nakagawara each reading free verse selections.
Both are students from Sequim High School and members of the Wednesday Writing Club held after school in Nellie Bridge’s classroom.
Davidson came to Sequim five years ago from Corpus Christi, Texas. She has battled back from a rare blood disorder and is now a healthy fan of Dungeons &Dragons, knitting, poetry and other literature.
She has been writing poems for a year, finding “it quickly became an important way to express myself and reflect on events.”
Nakagawara moved to Sequim from Phoenix last summer. She enjoys playing soccer, hiking and surfing, and admits to an affection for televised British murder mystery series.
She’s been writing since she was 5.
“It is a way for me to rework and express my sentiments and thoughts in an unique and unrestricted way.”
An hour of five-minute open mic readings will follow the two guest speakers.
Interested writers — including other young writers — should come early to submit their names.
