YEA Music Camp registration accepted now

PORT TOWNSEND — Signups are open for the Youth Education in Arts music day camps, known as the YEA Music! program, to be offered at two locations in Port Townsend this summer.

Students entering fifth grade through 12th grade — beginners through advanced musicians — are encouraged to register. The camps include music classes and ensembles such as fiddle groups, jazz and pep bands, chamber groups and other offerings, responding to students’ interests.

The two weeklong camps will run from 9 a.m. until noon July 18-22 at Swan School, 2345 Kuhn St., and Aug. 8-12 at Blue Heron Middle School, 3939 San Juan Ave.

As they did at YEA Music! camp last summer, participants will work with high-level music instructors from around the region. For beginners, instruments are provided so young musicians can explore several kinds.

These day camps are based on a pay-what-you-can model, with a suggested $10-per-day donation, but no one is turned away. Space is limited, though, so students are asked to register in advance at https://www.yeamusic.org. The website also has information about the nonprofit organization’s mission and history.
