Yacht Club to host Reach and Row for Hospice

SEQUIM — Sequim Bay Yacht Club will host the 2019 Reach and Row for Hospice, featuring sailboat and rowing races Saturday and Sunday on Sequim Bay.

Community members are encouraged to watch races on the grounds at John Wayne Marina, 2577 W. Sequim Bay Road.

Funds raised from the event will benefit Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County’s respite care program.

The sailboat races are scheduled to begin around noon Saturday and will conclude around 4 p.m.

The rowing competition will start around 9 a.m. Sunday and finish around 11 a.m.

According to the organization’s website, this year’s event is being dedicated to Rear Admiral Bob and Gunvor McClinton, who both recently died.

Since the first race, the two of them are credited for raising over $100,000 in contributions for Volunteer Hospice.

The event raises funds earmarked for respite care for family members of Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County (VHOCC) patients.

The race last year raised $31,114.32, bringing the total contribution amount to $360,026.80 over the past 26 years.

Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, a nonprofit organization, provides compassionate care to the terminally ill, their caregivers and families. VHOCC does not bill any patient, insurance plan or government agency. All services are supported by local donations and grants.

Funds raised by Sequim Bay Yacht Club’s annual Reach and Row for Hospice event exclusively support respite care for hospice patients and their families.
