SEQUIM — The Sequim Botanical Garden Society will hold its final “Work to Learn” Party for the 2019 season with a focus on dahlias.
The session will start at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Terrace Garden in Carrie Blake Community Park, 202 N. Blake Ave.
Lee Bowen, the group’s dahlia expert, will demonstrate the digging, dividing and storage of dahlia tubers for the winter at this workshop which is open to the public.
Attendees will work alongside the volunteer garden society members to remove tubers from the ground, clean them, and then learn the secret of dividing viable tubers that, after storing over the winter, will be planted and bloom next summer.
Yellow signs will point the way to parking near the water reuse area and band shell closest to the Terrace Garden.
These “Work to Learn” parties are an opportunity for novice and seasoned gardeners to volunteer together to cultivate what makes our community distinctive and flourishing.
The Sequim Botanical Garden Society is a volunteer partner with the City of Sequim and a nonprofit organization.
It provides educational information and a visual demonstration of what can be done in home gardening with research-based horticultural practices near the band shell in Carrie Blake Community Park.
