Woodworking, art topic of Friday talk

PORT TOWNSEND — The fine arts side of woodworking is the topic of this Friday’s Jefferson County Historical Society presentation featuring artist and educator Kimberly Winkle and the Port Townsend School of Woodworking.

In this program — part of the monthly First Friday Speaker Series — Winkle will tell her story and delve into her own creative process, according to the society’s website, JCHSmuseum.org.

The Zoom event will start at 7 p.m. and run about an hour, with admission by donation. The nonprofit historical society suggests a $10 contribution, and advance registration is required at JCHSmuseum.org via the Education and Programs link at the top of the page. For information, phone the Jefferson Museum of Art and History at 360-385-1003.

Like the other speakers in the 2021 series, titled “The Art of Making,” Winkle is a hands-on creator. She shapes furniture and other art with wood and paint, striving for a balance of form, color and surface pattern, and has exhibited her pieces internationally.

The next programs in the First Friday Speaker Series will feature LaughinGnome Pottery on Aug. 6, Coast Salish wool weaving with Susan Pavel on Sept. 3, “Placemaking” with Mackenzie Grinnell on Oct. 1 and canvas clothing by Best Coast Canvas on Nov. 5.

All presentations begin at 7 p.m.
