Woodworkers bring a good turn to Port Townsend on Saturday, Sunday

PORT TOWNSEND — Artisans will present a variety of wood-wrought items and arts at the 12th annual Port Townsend Woodworkers Show.

They include furniture and cabinetmakers, luthiers and instrument makers, boatbuilders, carvers, sculptors, jewelers, turners and students from the Chimacum and Port Townsend High School woodworking programs.

The free-admission show will take place Saturday and Sunday at the American Legion Hall, 209 Monroe St. in downtown Port Townsend.

The doors will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The purpose is to introduce the Olympic Peninsula’s community of talented and accomplished wood artisans to the public, and to provide an opportunity for woodworkers to present and discuss their work in a relaxed and informal setting, according to a press release.

It has become a Port Townsend institution, with an estimated audience exceeding 1,800 throughout the course of the weekend.

This year’s show will feature new work and new exhibitors in addition to returning artists.

The show is organized and presented by The SplinterGroup, a loose-knit collective of woodworkers with the mission statement: “Dovetailing Two Communities — Woodworkers and Port Townsend.”

SplinterGroup members include local woodworkers Steve Habersetzer, Michael Hamilton, David Kellum, Tim Lawson, John Marckworth and Seth Rolland.

Sponsors of this year’s show include Carl’s Building Supply, Edensaw Woods Ltd., Henery’s Do it Best Hardware, the Port Townsend School of Woodworking, The SplinterGroup and Wallyworks Construction Inc.
