COYLE — Woodland West, a five-member bluegrass/country/zydeco/rock band, will perform in the ongoing Concerts in the Woods series at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Admission will be by donation to the matinee concert at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center at 923 Hazel Point Road. Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission.
“As we go into April after the time change to daylight saving with longer days and warmer weather, we are switching to our Saturday evening format,” said organizer Norm Johnson.
Woodland West has “lots of experience and an equal abundance of energy for the music they love,” he said.
“This band is definitely a crowd-pleaser, so I advise getting here early to get a good seat.”
The band is made up of Chuck Dunklin, electric and acoustic tenor guitar; Mike Setzer, bass; Will Van Kely, percussion; Stephanie Ward, vocals, acoustic guitar and violin; and Luk Yanz, vocals, mandolin and keys.
Woodland West was formed in Seattle in early 2014.
Influences range from Bela Fleck and Alison Krauss to Pink Floyd, and the band uses non-traditional multi-instrumentation, improvisation and multiple harmonies to create a sound that “challenges traditional bluegrass norms,” according to the band’s website at www.woodland band.com.
The band released its debut album, “Devil to Pay,” on Aug. 19, 2016, and completed a West Coast tour in October 2016.
