Winter Song concerts slated for this weekend in Port Townsend

Singer, songwriter and violinist Kathryn Clair will be accompanied by collaborator Don Henson on piano and percussion in two shows in East Jefferson County this weekend.

At 7 tonight, the two will perform Winter Songs at a Songwriters Showcase at Northwind Arts Center.

Special guest Tommy Hull of Whidbey Island will open the show.

The concert will be in the gallery area at the center at 701 Water St.

Advance tickets are $12 at www.brownpapertickets.com and $15 at the door.

On Sunday at 3 p.m., Claire and Henson will perform Winter Songs at Concerts in the Woods at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road.

Admission will be by donation. Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission.

The program — which will weave together songs, instrumentals, traditional and original music — is inspired by the season with music to honor the shortest days and longest nights, organizers said.

With her violin and voice at the center of her music, Claire weaves together stories and melodies rooted in her classical and traditional musical background while infusing each song and composition with an energy and electricity that is palpable, according to Claire’s website at kathrynclairemusic.com.

She has toured and performed extensively in the U.S., Japan, The Netherlands, India, Belgium and France.

Henson is featured on Kathryn’s latest release, “Bones Will Last,” and has toured with Claire in the Pacific Northwest.

His Portland, Ore., band, Sneakin’ Out, has played various stages with Pink Martini, on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and had the honor of playing Carnegie Hall.
