Wine tour, gardening lecture coming up on Peninsula

A wine tour and a gardening lecture are among the upcoming activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Red wine, chocolate

Eight artisan wineries will present pairings of wine or cider and chocolate from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Monday on the final days of this year’s Olympic Peninsula Red Wine & Chocolate Tour.

Tickets for the self-guided tour, which began last weekend, are available for $40 online or $45 at the door of each participating winery.

A commemorative wine glass, wine tasting and food pairings are included in the ticket price. Visitors without tour tickets will be charged a $10 tasting fee at each venue.

Participating venues are Harbinger Winery at 2358 W. U.S. Highway 101, Camaraderie Cellars at 334 Benson Road and Olympic Cellars at 255410 U.S. Highway 101 in Port Angeles; Wind Rose Cellars at 143 W. Washington St. in Sequim; FairWinds Winery at 1984 W. Hastings Ave.,Port Townsend Vineyards at 2640 W. Sims Way andEaglemount Wine & Cider at 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road in Port Townsend; and Marrowstone Vineyards at 423 Meade Road in Nordland.

Hurricane Ridge

OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — The Hurricane Ridge winter sports area will be open on Monday for Presidents Day, weather permitting.

Operated by the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Club, the area offers activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The area has two rope tows and a Poma lift for beginner to advanced skiers.

For fees, the club’s ski school offers three-week and drop-in ski/snowboard lessons, plus toddler-age lessons and private lessons for one person or more (six maximum).

There is also a dedicated tubing run, with one-hour passes ($14 general, free for 8 and younger) available.

Passes — both season passes and reduced cost tickets for just the bunny lift, the intermediate and bunny lifts or the Poma and all lifts, plus tubing fees — are outlined on the club’s website at www.hurricaneridge.com.

The National Park Service encourages visitors to call 360-565-3131 for a 24-hour recording of current road and weather conditions.

Garden club

PORT ANGELES — Ji Douglas, manager of Sunny Farms Garden Store, will present “Bareroot Trees and Pruning for Beauty and Bounty” at 10 a.m. Monday.

He will speak at a meeting of the Port Angeles Garden Club at First Presbyterian Church of Port Angeles, 139 W. Eighth St.

The public is invited to the free meeting that begins with a coffee social at 9:30 a.m.

Monday Musicale

PORT ANGELES — Monday Musicale will meet at noon Monday followed by a concert by surprise musician at 1 p.m.

The meeting will be in Queen of Angels Catholic Church’s Fellowship Hall, 209 W. 11th St.
