Waterfront Day sails in Sunday

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles waterfront will be on display during the second annual Waterfront Day from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Waterfront Day activities will stretch from the west end of the Port Angeles Boat Haven to the marine terminals.

Tours, demonstrations, information and display booths, a scavenger hunt and activities for children are planned during the day sponsored by the Port of Port Angeles and the Port Angeles Yacht Club.

“The event will allow visitors to see behind-the-scenes in locations they normally are not allowed,” said Holly Hairell, port public relations manager.

From the east parking lot, just east of the intersection of Marine Drive and Tumwater Street, visitors can access driving tours of Terminals 1 and 3.

New this year will be a driving tour of the port authority’s log yard.

Visitors can use a free shuttle bus, accessible from any designated shuttle stop along the route, or walk the route.

Staff will be available with maps and lists of activities.

Family-friendly events include boat tours and free vessel safety checks by Port Angeles Yacht Club, exhibits and demonstrations at the yacht club, food trucks at the boat haven and a kids scavenger hunt with prizes.

Participating organizations include Puget Sound Pilots, U.S. Power Squadron, Port Angeles Yacht Club High School Sailing Team, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Salmon Coalition, Lower Elwha Tribe, Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and Westport Yachts.
