Walk to show garden in its glory

SEQUIM — The Woodcock Demonstration Garden is in its full summer glory and the public is invited to see it during a guided tour with veteran Master Gardener Betty Ashland at 10 a.m. Thursday.

The Woodcock Demonstration Garden, a 2.74-acre site at 2711 Woodcock Road, has garden displays demonstrating sustainable gardening techniques that cover a broad range of ornamentals, edible and native plants as well as composting and garden design.

It is open to the public for free daily.

The walk will explore the perennial and seasonal flowers in bloom throughout the garden as well as the herb gardens and vegetable beds, organizers said.

Among the ornamentals on display are the dahlias, which are in full bloom; the succulents, which are flourishing in the present hot, dry weather; and the grasses, featuring a range of shapes, sizes, and color.

In the vegetable garden, tomatoes are starting to ripen while the asparagus bed is already preparing for next season’s harvest.

Master Gardeners tend the gardens on Thursday mornings and will be available to answer questions on their respective areas.

For additional information on this and other gardening activities, contact the Master Gardener program coordinator at 360-565-2679.
