Voice Works participants lift voices for concerts this weekend

PORT TOWNSEND — Public performances cap Centrum’s annual Voice Works workshop this weekend.

The first is a free performance from noon to 1 p.m. today on the lawn of the Nora Porter Commons at Fort Worden State Park, 200 Battery Way.

Honky Tonk dance

That will be followed by the annual Honky Tonk Polka Dot Dance, a tradition in which guests are urged to wear polka dots as they enjoy the music, a beer garden and a wooden dance floor at the USO Building at Fort Worden.

Tickets are $15, sold at the door only.

The dance will feature singers Courtney Granger of Louisiana and Luke Bell of Tennessee, backed by musicians David Keenan on guitar, Dan Tyack on pedal steel, Keith Lowe on bass and Kelly Van Camp on percussion.

At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, will be Vintage Vocals: Roots to Jazz to R&B.

The concert will be performed at the Wheeler Theater. General admission will be $25.

Tickets are available online at centrum.org/voice-works-performances.

It will present six pairs of artists from Denmark, Canada, the American South and the Pacific Northwest.

They are Jenny Lester and Karla Mundy of British Columbia, Maja Kjær Jacobsen of Denmark and David Boulanger of Quebec, Valerie Mindel of Vermont and Joe Newberry of North Carolina, Grace Love of Seattle and Michaud Savage, Becky Kilgore of Oregon and John Miller and Pharis and Jason Romero of British Columbia.

The Voice Works workshop began Tuesday and ends Sunday.
