SEQUIM — Longtime North Olympic Peninsula artists Sally Cays and Jeannine Chappell are in the spotlight this August at Blue Whole Gallery.

An opening for the duo’s exhibit is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.

The gallery, open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, can allow up to six visitors at a time under current heath guidelines.

She teachers about four watercolor workshops per year in Sequim and also has taught workshops at the Daniel Smith Art Supply Store in Seattle.

Much of her work has been commission portraiture.

She continues to do commissioned portraits of people and of pets.

She is also known for her dramatic floral and still life paintings.

Cays is a signature member of The Northwest Watercolor Society and a juried member of Women Painters of Washington.

See her work at www.caysart.com.

Chappell said her art combines “the spontaneity of working on paper with the editing capabilities of the computer.”

Being “earthbound” in recent months, “we can look to the flight of our bird companions for that connection with the freedoms we long for,” Chappell said.
