Venues display art during extended hours on Saturday

PORT ANGELES — Harbor Art Gallery and Cabled Fiber & Yarn are among places in Port Angeles that will have extended hours during the Second Saturday Art Walk.

Harbor Art Gallery, at 114 North Laurel St. in the heart of downtown Port Angeles, will feature the artwork of photographer Roger Mosley throughout the month of May.

The gallery generally is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. During the Second Saturday Art Walk, it will be open until 7 p.m., and visitors can meet with Mosley and other members of the artist cooperative.

Mosley has enjoyed nature photography for many years and is always looking at the interplay of light and subject, he said.

“That may be the way the early morning light glows off the mossy sides of a huge, ancient cedar,” he said, “or the mood created when the warm mid-day rays of the winter sun penetrate the heavy forest canopy.”

Roger and his wife live in Joyce.

“I enjoy capturing those small scenes that make country living so enjoyable,” Mosley said. “In particular I am fascinated with old farm structures and fence lines, and I continually strive to capture images of these subjects in unique light.”

Mosley’s featured work will be a potpourri of landscape images emphasizing the role of water in the Pacific Northwest environment.

The gallery showcases work by other local artists Bob Stokes and Cindy Elstrom, Carolyn Guske, Robert Amaral, Kelly Coffey, Garret Delabarre, Terri Ench, Tammy Hall, Susan Kantowitz, Ruth Kaspin, Nancy McFaul, Gail McLain, Eric Neurath, Miranda Petruska, Randy and Sallie Radock, Jodi Riverstone, Nathan Shields, Jennifer and Davis Stevenson, Lance and Haley Snider, Eileen Webb and Kevin Willson.

Cabled Fiber & Yarn will present a free weaving display for visitors from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the Second Saturday Art Walk.

Woven Textile Garments as Art is the theme for the exhibit at the shop at 125 W. First St. in Port Angeles. The exhibit will feature a collection of woven garments by textile artist MaryAnn Deuth of Port Angeles on display as well as a discussion of her weaving technique. It will be available only Saturday evening.

Deuth is a member of the North Olympic Shuttle & Spindle Guild and has been weaving on her LeClerc Jack Loom or Counter Balance Floor Loom for nearly 30 years, creating textiles and garments for herself and family members.

She said she enjoys the process of creating texture and blending colors that lend themselves to traditional patterns and garment designs.
