Variety of jazz on tap at Thursday concert

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble’s “Summer Quarter Concert” will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The free concert will be in the Maier Performance Hall on the Port Angeles campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., under the direction of David P. Jones.

The concert will feature Robbin Eaves on vocals along with an eight-piece jazz band.

The band will play a wide variety of music with compositions by Duke Ellington, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Clifford Brown, Vincent Youmans, and the Average White Band, as well as two world premieres by Jones.

The performers in this band are from throughout the North Olympic Peninsula.

From Port Angeles are Richard “Doc” Thorson (tenor sax), Jim Bradbury (trumpet/flugelhorn), Max Larsen (bass), Marge Rosen (drums), Kevin MacCartney (percussion) and Jones (keyboards/director). Sequim residents include Dan James (trumpet), and Jeff Dingle (trombone), while John Adams (alto sax and bass clarinet) hails from Port Townsend.

COVID vaccinations, masking and social distancing are optional but encouraged at Peninsula College.
