Variety of entertainment to be had this weekend

A variety of activities are in the works for this weekend on the North Olympic Peninsula.

The Port Angeles Symphony Chamber Orchestra will perform tonight in Port Angeles and Saturday in Sequim.

Vivaldi’s Concerto in D major for viola d’amore is the centerpiece of the orchestra’s concert at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave. in Port Angeles, tonight, and at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. in Sequim, on Saturday. Both performances will start at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $20 with those 18 and younger admitted free with a ticketed adult.

• “Art In The Air” will be on view at the Sequim Museum & Arts, 544 N. Sequim Ave. in Sequim, through Jan. 27.

Presented by the Olympic Silent Flyers RC Club, the display contains unmotorized and motorized scale model airplanes, many historic in themselves or copies of historic aircraft. They range from 6-10 inches to nearly 10 feet in wingspan.

The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

• A Chat with the Artists will present four of the artists represented in Peninsula Fiber Artists’ “Burst of Color” to answer questions from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery.

This event was rescheduled from Saturday, Jan. 13, due to snowy weather.

Each of the artists will speak at the gallery at 701 Water St. about their media and will welcome questions afterward.

Linda Carlson will discuss “Found Objects and Commonplace Materials;” Kathie Cook will address “Hand Piecing and Hand Quilting;” and Liisa Fagerlund will describe embellishments. All three are from Sequim. Pamela Raine of Port Ludlow will speak on “Mixed Media.”

• Mia Torres will perform from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Old Alcohol Plant Inn, 310 Hadlock Bay Road, Port Hadlock. No cover charge.

• Jack Tierney will perform from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Spirits Bar and Grill at the Old Alcohol Plant Inn, 310 Hadlock Bay Road, Port Hadlock. No cover charge.

• Buttercup Lane will provide music for dancing from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4760, 169 E. Washington St., Sequim.

The band features Mike Johnson, electric ukulele and vocals; Diane Johnson, vocals; Rodger Bigelow, lead guitar and vocals; Dave Keyte, electronic wind instrument; and Bob Rhodes, bass guitar.

No cover charge.

Book sale by the Friends of the Sequim Library will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The sale is in the Friends’ storefront location in Rock Plaza, 10175 Old Olympic Highway.

The sale features a collection of Andre Norton science fiction and a 24-volume WWII Encyclopedia.

• Quimper Unitarian Best Book Sale is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The sale is in Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave.

The sale features used books and CDs for $2; after 3 p.m., there will be a $5 bag of books sale.

Proceeds benefit children and adult programs at the fellowship and community nonprofits.

Port Angeles Friends of the Library’s monthly Bag of Books sale will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The sale is in the lobby at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Bags will be provided, and customers will be able to purchase as many books as they can fit into the bag for $5.

Customers also can bring their Friends of the Library canvas tote bag and fill it for $3.

The Friends of Library’s adult book bags can be purchased for $8 and filled for free.

Proceeds will benefit special programs hosted by the North Olympic Library System.

• Olympic Christian School will celebrate school choice with a fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The free school fair is in the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St.

The fair will showcase a range of education options including public schools, private schools and homeschool groups.

Attendees will be able to meet educators and have questions answered.

The family-friendly event include a balloon artist, photo booths, free food and face painters.

• Blue Whole Gallery will host Janet Piccola demonstrating turning ceramics on a potter’s wheel from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The free demonstration is at the gallery at 129 W. Washington St.

• Clallam County Genealogical Society will present “I Know Nothing About Genealogy” at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The free class will be taught in the society’s research center, 403 E. Eighth St.

The class introduces the methods used and resources available to family detectives as well as some common pitfalls to avoid.

• Mid-winter Art Soiree is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

The fundraiser is at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St.

Unsold art will be available for purchase from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The show features original works from a variety of artists, including framed paintings, drawings and limited edition signed prints.

These items, which have been donated to the center over the years, will be sold to benefit the center’s operations.

Refreshments and wine will be served.

Admission is by donation at the door.
