Valley of Trolls run Saturday in Gardiner

Hosted are half-marathon and 10-kilometer races, plus a 5-kilometer and a Kid’s Sprint for Health races.

GARDINER — Ready for Valley of the Trolls, the sequel?

The four-race event, held once again at Troll Haven Bandy Farms at 950 Gardiner Beach Road, is back Saturday after a strong showing in its inaugural kickoff in 2015.

The Friends of Jefferson County Parks and Recreation group is hosting half-marathon and 10-kilometer races, plus a 5-kilometer and a Kid’s Sprint for Health races. The event is certified by USA Track & Field.

The start time this year is a bit earlier, with the starter’s gun set for 8 a.m. for the half-marathon, 8:15 a.m. for the 10K and 8:30 a.m. for the 5K.

Entry fees for adults are $60 for the half-marathon, $45 for the 10K and $35 for the 5K. Fees for those 18 and younger are $5 less.

T-shirts are included in the entry fee. Those registering after Aug. 1 will receive shirts either on race day or by mail.

Packet pickup is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today or on race morning starting at 6 a.m.

Troll Haven is, as race organizers describe, “a magical, mystical sanctuary that has been created for families, friends and especially for children.”

The privately owned estate occupies 150 acres along Discovery Bay in Gardiner, between Sequim and Port Townsend.

This year’s half-marathon features a pacer group, said Jane Storm, one of the organizers.

Commemorative awards will be presented to the overall male and female in the half-marathon, as well as age groups 12 and younger, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80-plus.
